Republican Economics: Trickle Down 101

Yes, there IS such a thing as “trickle down economics.” It trickles down from the wealthiest Americans, directly into the coffers of the most corrupt politicians.

It’s no secret that the GOP favors giving tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans over those in need. Even before Reagan’s and Dubbya’s “trickle down” lies, Republicans have always coddled the rich.

Why is that? Why would anyone so brazenly undermine the welfare of those in most need in favor of those who already have everything they could ever want? If Trump’s Big Bullshit Bill passes in its present form, it will knock anywhere from 9.7 million to 14.4 million Americans off Medicaid. That’s the population of all of Illinois—real people, with real medical needs.

Joe Biden’s plan called for tax cuts for everyone making $400,000 and under. Those over $400k, their taxes would have gone up.

But the Republican’s plan skews just the opposite. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the bottom 10%, who earn $14,000 or less (try to imagine living on that), will take home $800.00 *less* in 2027 under Trump’s budget.

But those who earn $128,000 will take home an additional $9,700 in 2027. And those in the top 1% class? They’ll pocket an additional $63,000. And the tippy-top .1% even more.

Why would anyone support such an unfair policy? Literally taking from the destitute and giving it to the yachting class?

It’s very simple:

Billionaire to Congressperson: “If you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. If you promise not to overtax me, a generous portion of my good fortune will trickle down to your next campaign. But if you don’t, then it just might end up in your opponent’s pocket.”

Congressperson: “Understood! But how do we explain it to the electorate? They’re going to notice the inequality.”
Billionaire: “That’s your problem. Try rolling out that trickle down nonsense again, it’s always worked in the past. Call Rupert, he’ll be glad to help. His audience will swallow whatever his propagandists tell them.”

Yes, there IS such a thing as “trickle down economics.” It trickles down from the wealthiest Americans, directly into the coffers of the most corrupt politicians: the ones who keep them happily ensconced in their ivory towers.

A most cynical, cruel, in broad daylight quid pro quo.

You can begin to understand why the French commoners resorted to the guillotine when they did.
