The Supreme Court just made the entirety of Project 2025 completely doable. If Trump is elected to office this November, January 21st, 2025 it will mark the end of our Democracy.
Today marks a new and very dark milestone that we hope will not have to be observed by future historians as a seminal event in the fall of our Democracy.
The Supreme Court today handed down its decision on the Trump immunity case. The highlights of the decision are that the President—and this applies to Trump—enjoys absolute immunity for crimes committed as “official acts.” The decision was 6-3, written by Chief Justice Roberts.
Part of the dissent written by Justice Jackson states “…the majority’s model simply sets the criminal law to one side when it comes to crimes allegedly committed by the President.”
When we start really thinking about the implications of this, especially with Trump attempting to regain the presidency, it invokes a chill deep down into one’s bones.
People who have paid attention to Trump’s statements that he will be a dictator “on day one” should now take that statement as gospel. The fact that the legality of his promises is thin or non-existent no longer matters.
The entirety of Project 2025 just got completely doable. If Trump is elected to office this November, no matter how illegal the act, he will have no restraint. Thus, on January 21st, 2025 would mark the end of our Democracy. And the permanent Trump dictatorship will commence.
If it hadn’t already been the case for many, the imperative of keeping Trump out of the White House this November just got too real to be quibbled with.
Remember, it was too crazy for us to imagine that this caricature of human could get elected in 2016. Boy were we wrong. If we fail in 2024, regret for not working harder will be the least of our concerns. Many of us will be on transports of some sort to newly constructed internment camps as the remnants of our rights, traditions and history are systematically dismantled and erased.
That’s not a casual statement. Trump has already promised to do roundups. And there will no longer any legal boundaries if we allow him access to the privilege of labeling his crimes as “official acts.”
It is not just our elected officials that have the responsibility of upholding and defending our Constitution. That job belongs to each and every one of us. We must vote this man down decisively once and for all. We will not have another chance, ever.
