Elevating masculinity and violence above democracy is just one part of Trump’s and the Republican war against our form of government. But make no mistake, democracy itself is in the crosshairs.
Thom Hartmann
As long as we’re all fighting with each other about history or gender, billionaires and their corporations are free to continue pillaging America while ripping off working people and their families.
We are seeing an all-out assault on democracy in America, coming from multiple dictatorial regimes that have an interest—both financial and political—in seeing Trump back in office.
No former president in American history has encouraged violence or tried to inspire stochastic terrorism. Outside of the Confederacy, no politician has worked so hard to tear America apart.
Trump cultists are already calling for death to people who oppose his efforts to capture the White House in 2024: It’s time for the 14th Amendment.
The simple reality, dear Trump-lover, is that you’ve been suckered and now might be a good time to change the channel.
Republicans want to distract us from their actual agenda, which bears a much closer resemblance to fascist states like Russia and Hungary than communism in Cuba.
The bottom line here is that Trump and his co-conspirators were not only willing but planning to recreate Reagan’s and Nixon’s Kent State slaughter on a nationwide basis.
It looks like the billionaires who control the MAGA movement have learned from January 6th and won’t make the mistake of having an independent military, FBI, press, or Department of Justice again.
Reagan’s economic policies marked the beginning of the neoliberal experiment, which weakened the middle class and caused inequality to skyrocket in America. Which in turn are driving America’s culture of gun violence and mass shootings.
This truly is a climate emergency, and every day that goes by without significant action further endangers the future of almost all life on Earth, including us.
Trump has openly threatened violence: “If you fuck around with us, if you do something bad to us, we are going to do things to you that have never been done before.”
Governor Abbott wanted people to jump through long, complex, confusing hoops to retain their Medicaid. Many thousands did not, which is explicitly his goal.
The federal government under Trump suddenly stopped trying to save lives and started promoting policies that would eventually kill—unnecessarily—a half-million Americans.
Trump may or may not be the GOP’s nominee this time next year, but, whoever it is, now is the time to harden our democracy against a neofascist MAGA Republican rising to that office.
Dissent—like in the colonies before 1776—is no longer allowed in the GOP. Authoritarianism like that of King George III now prevails. Oligarchy has completely seized the Party.
