Former NFL player Herschel Walker is running for Senate in Georgia against Raphael Warnock, the Democratic incumbent. So far so good. Things go pretty rapidly into the department of weird when we give even a cursory examination to his position statements and rhetoric.
Walker is hardcore right wing in favoring a national ban on abortion with no exceptions. He loudly criticizes black men for abandoning families and children. These positions would be understandable for him to take as a Republican, endorsed by the former guy—except for a few other facts:
It turns out he paid for an abortion in 2009 for a former girlfriend, denied it, but was overridden in that denial by a receipt from the clinic, his signature on the check and a get-well card he also signed.
It also turns out he also has some abandoned children of his own, including one whose mother had to sue him for child support.
There’s more. But really, no one gives a better breakdown of what’s really going on here than Trevor Hoah.
