Yesterday web viewers were treated to a video of biblical proportions: a statue—if you could call it that—of Donald Trump, covered in gold and a weird hybrid American Flag/Lord Fauntleroy outfit being wheeled in at CPAC in Florida.

This of course unleashed a biblical—I know I just said that—flood of comedic backlash on Twitter comparing it to the worship of the Golden Calf as a blasphemous idol.

Of course people had to pose for selfies with this thing, which one can suppose is a form of worship.

CPAC, for the uninitiated, stands for Conservative Political Action Conference, an annual political conference attended by conservative activists and elected officials from across the United States and beyond.

The unmistakable irony of having a golden statue on display by a group that considers itself deeply rooted in Christian religious doctrine seems to have been entirely lost on these folks. Of course, the voice-over in the video above helps connect those dots with the actual quotes from the Bible that are relevant.

Donald Trump is still epoxied to the minds of CPAC members and this statue makes one draw a conclusion that actually worshiping him is not off the table.
