The Lincoln Project is a political action committee (PAC) formed in late 2019 by former and current Republicans. Some of the founders are pretty familiar names and now quite notorious in Republican circles for their vehement opposition to the former guy.
Here’s the list:
During the 2020 presidential election, The Lincoln Project aimed to prevent the re-election of Donald Trump and defeat all Republicans in close races running for re-election in the United States Senate. In April 2020, the committee endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
Since the inception of the PAC, The Lincoln Project put out compelling videos calling out the abuses, hypocrisy and outright criminality of the former president and his administration. Here’s an example:
A rough count today tallies about 560 videos released since January of 2020.
Their activity wasn’t just about producing these videos, but getting Trump to see them and getting under his skin. The Lincoln Project made this happen by doing ad placements on the only network he watched: FOX.
In early 2021 The Lincoln Project had reportedly imploded with scandal. The Washington Post reported:
Steve Schmidt, a co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, resigned from the organization’s board Friday, throwing the multimillion-dollar super PAC into further disarray over its handling of sexual harassment allegations against another one of its co-founders, John Weaver.
But to the shagrin of MAGA Republicans, The Lincoln Project did not die. It continues to put out new content daily. And now it is the subject of a Showtime Documentary directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Fisher Stevens (The Cove) and Oscar-nominated director Karim Amer (The Square). The five-part series premiered yesterday on the cable network.
Here is a trailer for the series:
As we move closer to November 8th, we can certainly expect more from The Lincoln Project. Like this one posted yesterday:
