There are a few things we hear over and over about Trump’s plans for his second term—the one he promises he will serve from prison, as his character of “professional victim” dictates. One of the key aspects of his plans is revenge.
Over and over we hear about his plan to take revenge on the people who were “disloyal” to him or that he just doesn’t like—and that’s a lot of people. Never mind that every member of our government swears an oath to the Constitution and not some individual person—no matter how much fake wealth he has.
Both Lucian Truscott and Thom Hartmann had a lot to say about that recently and they are spot on. If he gets his way, his revenge tour will be happening. The list of plans from Trump and his followers read like the to-do list for turning our country into a for-real Gilead from The Handmaid’s Tale.
Meanwhile, there is another aspect of his campaign that does not get enough notice, the weird religious fervor that surrounds it and seems to propel it.
The use of God by wanna be dictators and past despots is well documented. Hitler was fond of saying, “Gott Mit Uns.” This translates literally to “God is with us.” Part of his schtick was that God was on their side so it was okay to kill everyone else.
Meanwhile, Trump has a cadre of “pastors” surrounding him—one of whom apparently gets messages every day from God about specific agencies that are about to be obliterated—to appeal to the Bible belters who comprise a significant percentage of his core fan base. (By Bible belters, I literally mean people who will happily belt you with a Bible if you aren’t of their mindset.)
So, the basic watchwords of Donnie’s campaign are, “Revenge” and “God wills it!” In other words, his basic strategy is just four words long.
To dramatize this a bit, we have compiled the shortest possible video describing this strategy, with a nod of thank you to A Fish Called Wanda and Kingdom of Heaven:
