As more and more revelations come out from the Select Committee investigating the attack on the Capitol on January 6th, it is becoming increasing clear that extensive efforts were made behind the scenes to bring it about.
Meanwhile the former guy is still running around to friendly (right wing) media outlets claiming the election was stolen from him. In truth something was stolen from him. It wasn’t the election, it was the opportunity to steal it. Like any typical petty criminal, Trump is accusing others of doing exactly what he was doing.
We should count ourselves lucky that this man is inherently incompetent and can’t actually complete actions. Were it not for this fact we would already be living under a dictatorship.
As illustrated by Liz Cheney’s recital of text messages turned over by former chief of staff Mark Meadows, there were a lot of people involved in trying to steal the election—all while operating under the Roger Stone cheer leading chant of “Stop the Steal.” Clearly Stone is also enamored with idea of accusing others of his own crimes and turned it into a marketing theme.
The information that there was a “war room” at the Willard Hotel, paid for by the credit card of the former NYPD commissioner Bernard Kerik, with documented communications to and from the White House is equally damming.
Conspiracy is defined as,
“An agreement between two or more people to commit an illegal act, along with an intent to achieve the agreement’s goal. Most U.S. jurisdictions also require an overt act toward furthering the agreement. An overt act is a statutory requirement, not a constitutional one. See Whitfield v. United States, 453 U.S. 209 (2005). The illegal act is the conspiracy’s ‘target offense.'”
The fact that some of the players got cold feet—per the Meadows texts—as the attack on the Capitol unfolded does not absolve them of their participation. These messages also show that Meadows is a conspirator in the attack. He can claim the 5th all he wants now, but he has already handed over the necessary documentation for his future conviction. That much is obvious.
Meanwhile, unhinged pillow pitchman Mike Lindell and disgraced lawyer Rudy Giuliani are screaming to tired ears that they possess full evidence that the election was stolen. Of course no one has seen this evidence, even the supposed 900 death certificates of people who voted claimed by Giuliani. How 900 death certificates over ride the margin 7 million votes that Biden beat Trump with has yet to be explained.
The real fact is that these guys are stuck literally in the time of the realization of that loss and can’t move forward. This is the mentality of the psychotic—one who is truly mired in the past and cannot even see his present environment. This possibly explains why Giuliani was seemingly unaware that he was holding a news conference outside a landscaping company and an adult book store in his melting hair dye interview. This was a man who used to put criminals in prison and was credited with bringing down organized crime in New York. Now he’s trying to manufacture evidence to try to undermine confidence in American elections.
There is a lot more information yet to come. The various conspirators in the coup attempt of January 6th are scrambling to try to cover up their actions. Another hallmark of insane people like this is that they don’t ever learn the lessons of the past. And the key lesson is that there is no secret in Washington D.C. that will not be revealed sooner or later. It is as inexorable as gravity. They are only delaying the inevitable.
One other fact that is obvious here is that the Select Committee is doing its job with a refreshing thoroughness and a competence that cannot even be approached by the former guy and his allies.
