Republican members of Congress who were involved in the January 6th insurrection are whipping up loads of distractions to divert attention from the question, "Why are they still in office and not in jail?"

New revelations in just about every media outlet show that the conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States was already rolling before the counting of votes for November 2020 election was completed.

Heather Cox Richardson wrote in her notes from April 8th,

…Donald Trump, Jr., texted Trump’s White House chief of staff Mark Meadows on November 5, 2020, two days after the presidential election and two days before the media would call the election for President Elect Joe Biden: “We have operational control Total leverage…. Moral High Ground POTUS must start 2nd term now.”

The text, in the possession of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol and reviewed by CNN reporters Ryan Nobles, Zachary Cohen, and Annie Grayer, suggested that even before the election was called for Biden, Trump’s people knew he would lose. Trump, Jr., offered a number of different ways in which Trump could nonetheless steal the election, most of which later materialized. Trump, Jr. apparently could not see why this would be a problem, since, “we have operational control.” “It’s very simple,” he texted: “We have multiple paths[.] We control them all.”

To purloin a few words from Don Jr., “It’s very simple,” this is direct evidence of a criminal conspiracy to steal the election.

As more and more information trickles out from the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection, a sharper and sharper picture of the depth of this conspiracy is appearing. And for those involved in this plot up to their eyeballs nothing could be worse news.

Nothing creates more turmoil in the mind of a criminal than wondering if they have been found out or not. And so it is with Trump, his family, various sycophants and enablers. The level of anxiety in those with the blood on their hands of those killed and injured on that day is rising every day as new pieces of evidence are published. So what do we see as a result? More attempts to distract the public on wild goose chases that lead attention away from themselves.

We now have the return of “Hunter Biden’s Laptop.” This wasn’t a very successful rumor when Joe Biden was still running for the office he holds now. Yet, the insurrectionist have dusted it off anew. (Not really very creative, but they are pretty desperate.) And the loudest voices shouting this are an interesting mix: Congressional Republican Trump fanboys and Russian propaganda outlets, aka FOX News. It is always interesting to see both these groups using the same talking points. That in itself speaks to conspiracy since there is obvious coordination between them.

It comes down to this always. Criminals will accuse others of their own crimes in an effort to distract attention away from themselves. So when you hear, “But Hunter’s laptop…” spewing from the mouths of people who called January 6th a “normal tourist visit” or “legitimate political discourse” you can be certain they have a LOT to hide.

These folks are the insurrectionist distraction faction. They care about nothing but keeping attention away from what they are guilty of. And for those of this group that are Members of Congress, this includes keeping attention away from the fact that Section 3 of the 14 Amendment disqualifies them from the very office they hold.
