There’s been a certain amount of angst in various circles about the fact that Trump has announced yet again that he’s running for President. But, taking this announcement at face value, as with any other statement made by this character, is probably a mistake.

Let’s examine some facts surrounding this announcement. First, no campaign manager. His fanboys are going to fill in this mental blank with assumptions like, “He’s better than anyone he could hire, so of course he’ll just do it himself.” Or, “He just doesn’t need one now because it is so early, why spend the money.” But the latter point, “why spend the money” is probably closer to the real point. A campaign manager would be planning expenditures and hiring staff, you know, campaign stuff. Probably the only people being hired will be those whose job will be collecting money, but not many to spend it.

This might be conjecture, but it is based on plenty of past information on Trump’s modus operandi: fundraise, fundraise, fundraise. And then hoard. In the end, there probably won’t be a lot of campaign related ways for Trump to spend these funds. There will probably never be a fully active campaign. This is a bold prediction, but here’s why it is being made.

State Ballot Qualifications

To run for President, a candidate must get on the ballot in all 50 states. What do you want to bet that Trump does not get on the ballot for at least half the states in the union?

Earlier this year we wrote about a non-profit called Free Speech for People. This group fostered citizen-based lawsuits challenging the candidacy of insurrectionist members of Congress, like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Madison Cawthorn.

This group has announced a new initiative to block Trump’s candidacy at state levels by going directly to the Secretary of State in each state. The final adjudication of who appears on any state ballot rests with this office. (So it is not much of a surprise why Republicans were trying to fill these offices with election deniers in the mid terms.)

The premise is simple and obvious:

…because of his role in inciting, encouraging, and supporting the January 6th insurrection, Trump is constitutionally ineligible for any future run for office.

Meanwhile Back at the Fundraiser…

Oh, yeah and then there is also the pesky issue of the mountain of evidence gathered by the January 6th Committee and now the Special Counsel appointed to bring the prosecutions home. All Trump does these days is rant and complain about “biased investigators,” “the deep state” and his tools from his misdirection arsenal. And announcing his candidacy again is just another part of this. It gives him more of what he always wants—free media coverage. But more than that it gives him what he thinks is a tool to give the investigations the illusion of political action against him. Indeed that’s what his sycophants immediately claimed.

All of this will be wrapped in packages of fundraising appeals to the folks who really don’t know or care what’s really happening.

Since he has no real chance of winning election again, the entire campaign is just another scam from a grifter who has already robbed the country of treasure and uncounted lives by his dereliction and negligence.

There have been worries by many Republicans that if they didn’t toe the Trump line, he would make an independent run for the office and split the party thus destroying it. The fact that 14th Amendment disqualifies him from running at all makes this a hollow threat, another con. Meanwhile, he has already destroyed the Republican Party by welding it to white supremacy, religious extremism, bigotry and finalized its allegiance to corporate interests rather than the electorate.

In the end, Trump’s candidacy for 2024 is just another in the unending string of lies he has spun to con this country.
